Dave Townsend
Dave was born and grew up in the midlands -
After a brief stint as a MUMPS programmer in Bristol working with VAX DSM and DSM-
Moving to an IBM Business Partner in 1996 saw new challenges (such as mainframes !) and many successful engagements as a Unix Consultant, before quickly moving to a client facing role and becoming a leading light in the partner’s sales team, responsible for over 12,000 man days of services and £12m of product revenue in his last three years with the company.
Dave left the BP role in September 2009 and founded Commodity with Howard the following month.
Howard Young
After graduating, Howard started his career with an initial spell in Local Government where he was responsible for implementing one of the first networks throughout the County, together with addressing the challenges presented by the leading edge technology at the time. With this experience Howard joined the ranks of IBM as a customer engineer and into a role where he moved onto manage a territory covering the North West and Wales. This was followed by a natural progression into sales and into a role where over time Howard covered all aspects of the IBM portfolio.
In that time he achieved the ‘club’ each year and won the top performers award twice. Howard was responsible for a ‘win back’ team displacing competitive equipment and also a client manager for a number of major corporate customers, before leaving IBM after 22 years service for the challenges of the IBM Business Partner community. He worked for two partners over a nine year period, being responsible for ‘System z’ development and for all product sales.
Howard left mid 2009 to start a fresh challenge of creating his own company with
Dave, delivering independent consultancy in product selection and reduced cost of
ownership, an area in which Howard has an unequalled depth of experience -
